The Maman Henriette Hall, located behind the provincial governor’s office in Isiro, came alive on Sunday evening with waves of applause as the name Dominique Atafo, General Director of the Mining Company for the Multimodal Engineering Company of Mining Services (COMISEMI), echoed through the venue. He had just been named Best Chief Executive Officer among mining companies operating in Haut-Uele, at the conclusion of the 3rd edition of the prestigious Uele Awards.
A Tribute to Leadership Rooted in Responsibility and Proximity
Speaking before an audience of provincial authorities, civil society representatives, traditional leaders, and economic operators, Dominique Atafo expressed deep emotion and sincere gratitude. « It is with great humility that I receive this award. It is not mine alone—it belongs to an entire committed team and a shared vision, » he declared, visibly moved.
According to him, this prize represents a collective recognition: one that acknowledges commitment, rigor, and close collaboration between COMISEMI, its employees, partners, and local communities. « This trophy reflects the tireless efforts of our teams, but also the bond of trust we build daily with the people in the areas where we operate, » he emphasized.
A Mining Vision Centered on People and Sustainable Development
The head of COMISEMI seized the opportunity to highlight the philosophy guiding his company’s operations: ethical, responsible mining focused on collective well-being. « Our mission goes far beyond mineral extraction. We aim to make this sector a true lever for sustainable development in Haut-Uele. That requires respecting the law, protecting the environment, and, above all, placing people at the heart of everything we do, » Dominique Atafo stated firmly.
In this regard, COMISEMI has committed to several social projects in the areas where it operates: building schools, rehabilitating health centers, improving access to clean water, and supporting women’s entrepreneurship and youth development. These initiatives, according to Mr. Atafo, are the tangible expression of the company’s corporate social responsibility.
A Call to Action for the Future of Haut-Uele
Far from resting on his laurels, Dominique Atafo viewed this distinction as a further challenge to meet. « This award is an encouragement to do more, to do better. Haut-Uele deserves companies that listen, innovate, and create shared value. It deserves better—and COMISEMI will continue to live up to this collective ambition, » he concluded to resounding applause.
